Hello lovelies. Happy TT.

Today's Peony Recipe

In Camera

Image captured with the Nikon d4 using the Sigma 50mm ART lens

ISO 200, Exposure 1/250 at f/6.3 Manual Mode with spot Metering.

Lightroom

Toned...then I applied my Dark Mood preset with a boost in saturation (Be Still students this preset is available for download in the Week 6 lesson).

Into Photoshop

I added a layer of kk_0405 at multiply 73% opacity. I masked the texture off the linen. I added a hue/saturation adjustment layer and clipped it to the texture layer. I lowered the saturation to -47. (Clipping the adjustment to the texture applies the hue/sat settings to the texture layer only)

In case you missed the 0405 texture, it was part of the May set. click HERE to download it.

The first session of LR Begin is underway.

Find out more about my sweet new creamer HERE. xo

Hello lovelies. Happy TT.

I have so much to tell you....yet it's impossible to put into words....right now.

The truth.... the past few months have been very difficult (and I'm not talking about the cancer).... A family journey.....It's been extra challenging for some time now.

I've had to work at..... not pulling into myself... My first reaction....when my heart is hurting......step back, put up a wall.......retreat.

Rather than giving up....I will continue showing up.....

But, I'm allowing myself to sit with the quiet...dream pretty pictures.... set up stills........praying for strength to keep believing.....everything is going to be okay.

One thing I know for sure... the Be Still practice is so very close to my heart!! My oh my.....

::

But enough on that sweet friends....It's time to share a little light....... after several dark and difficult days....a gift in the mail from my Insta-friend, Deborah.....what a blessing.

'sigh'....

Here's a little video of the unwrapping.... Thank you again sweet friend.... sending you much love.

Today's Peony Recipe

In Camera

Taken with my Nikon d800 and the Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART lens.

Shot in Manual. Camera Settings: F/2.5, Shutter Speed 1/800, ISO 640

Lightroom

Cropped to 4 x 5. Next an auto-tone. Then a boost in clarity (+21). I reduced the saturation to -40 and boosted the vibrance to +12.

Next a tone curve for a bit of a hazy finish.....

Down to split toning: highlights to 68 and 8 and the shadows to 309 and 13. Balance - 0.

I always enable lens correction on import.... So that's applied right from the start.

Into Photoshop

I added a layer of Waterfront 7 at soft light 100% opacity. I applied a gaussian blur filter (set to 3.1) to soften the texture. Then I masked the texture off the peony and leaves at about 50%.

The final touch... words by John F Kennedy.

You might remember I spent part of my birthday with PG. We hung out in her studio....talking all kinds of goodness........ all while taking photos....and editing on our phones.... It was the BEST. She graciously allowed me to borrow her scale that day....I've been in LOVE with it for years..... Here I am...finally taking some photos....

Isn't it a dream? Something extra photogenic about a vintage scale....

I LOVE playing with focus..... So fun!!! The tin scratches on the scale-front combined with the blur....made for some kinda-sorta bokeh.... Completely unexpected.....

Here's a closer shot.....

The Be Still class has been rocking the focus-play challenge....Well done guys!! Lovin all your beautiful images!

Thank you PG for sharing your lovely scale.... I highly recommend Prop Swapping!!

Happy sigh.......

Let's dive into my recipe.... and then some news.....

Today's Image Recipe - applied to all photos.

I started in LR with an auto-tone. Next I applied my greymist preset.

Next....into PS, where I added a layer of Waterfront 7 at soft light 100% opacity.

I finished the top and bottom one with a little type!! Easy peasy.....

I'm so thrilled to see the lilacs...everywhere....... not to mention their heavenly scent... so Lovely.

I spent a few hours on the front porch styling different lilac scenes today... I took a ton of photos in a variety of settings...
For today... 2 of my favs.....

I'm kinda in love with the top one...... You know how every now and then 'the one' comes along.... Well... this was that.... for me.... I said a few woo-hoos.... as I found may way to it.... in Lightroom.

I love every bit of the process... imagining a scene, hunting for the perfect drops and props.... pulling them together... click, click, click.... moving, shifting.....both my body and subject.... next into LR... Often times... back for another round...click, click... click...... then back to LR... and so it goes...

All so wondrous...Happy sigh......

My uptop image recipe

Auto-toned in LR.  Boosted the clarity (+30). Then dropped the saturation to -24 and the vibrance to -11.

From there I applied a a matte/hazy finish using the tone curve.... next down to split-toning were I added a hint of pink (very slight) to the highlights and a touch of lavender to the shadows.

Into Photoshop

I added a layer of waterfront 1 at soft light 54% opacity and masked about 50% off the lilacs.

For my quote image I used pretty much the same LR recipe with a layer of Waterfront 4 (instead) at soft light 44% opacity.

Today's Image Recipe - applied to both photos.

In Lightroom....

Cropped then Auto-toned .... then applied my preset 'let there be light'.

In Photoshop...

I added 2 layers of waterfront 28. One at color burn blend mode 59% opacity and the other at soft light 65% opacity.

Click HERE to download a sample version of Waterfront 28.

The script on the canola field is quickpen and the type is rough typewriter.

I've had a lot of emails regarding workflow from LR to PS. Below are a few video tutorials that may be helpful.

I've also had several emails asking about applying textures in LR. Unfortunately LR does not support layers. You have to use an external editor such as Elements or Photoshop. (other options such as PicMonkey and GIMP are avaialbe online, but I have not tried these).
