here’s a capture i wanted to share…..  the traditional christmas board game…oh my, it’s truly an event!  my boys, are extremely competitive.  i blame that on their father, because i’ve never been one to worry about winning a race or a game… but my husband and the boys, well let’s just say they have been known to “cheat” to win.  ugh.. shameful! 

so this year’s game of cranium was quite wild at times.  brett and my nephew jeremy won, but i’m wondering if there was a little cheating going on.  at one point my brother, the 2 boys and my mom were all doing the river dance (charades part of the game)… too funny!  and my brother was singing a rita macneil song… lol… 2, 2 funny! 

anyhow, i love traditions…..  i love that we always play a board game at christmas… that john and i play scrabble in the winter, that my mom always makes certain food for certain holidays, that my boys traditionally mock the skinning stockings (mocking the stockings)… it’s a secure, safe kind of feeling and one i know that i should not take for granted. 

i am so excited about 2010.  i plan on capturing all the moments that make it special.  i am sooo pumped to start painting tomorrow.  i have some great BIG plans.  i’m bursting with anticipation. 

so here’s to old and new traditions…i’m so excited…

some love for a primitive place

i just recently discovered a primitive place.  wow…it’s a fabulous site and community.  and when i have a little more time, i can’t wait to go thru each and every page.  they are currently hosting an amazing holiday home tour.  wow, there is just so much to see!

i posted today on 2BBB about a primitive place.  i feel like i’ve been living under a rock or something… i can’t believe i didn’t discover this site and the talented ladies who keep it all running sooner.  if, by chance, you have missed out as well, pop over and take a peek.

i am busy around here doing the usual countdown to christmas things.  so i haven’t done a lot of painting. i will leave you with this image of my tree and one of my favorite doors in our old home.

how bout you?

thankfully my mom and my aunt do all kinds of holiday baking.  so i have very little i “have” to do.  but there’s nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh baking thru the house, Christmas music in the background and twinkle lights around. 

so today is dedicated to a little baking, making some nuts & bolts (my husband loves his nuts & bolts) and perhaps some gift wrapping as well….

and the shopping is…

not done… barely started actually.  oops…

but tomorrow is a new day, and i have big plans for sweeping the stores, BRIGHT & EARLY.  :) how bout you?  are you done, almost done, barely?  it’s interesting how many different stages people are at.  but, in the end it all gets done,  and what doesn’t, really isn’t as important as we thought.  it’s so hard to keep it all in perspective. 

it’s so not about the shopping, the big gifts and the fancy decorations.   we all know that… but it’s difficult not to get “wrapped” up in it all.  this year i have been staying out of the stores.  that might be part of the reason i haven’t caught the frenzied bug.  perhaps, tomorrow i will feel differently.  but i’m going to head in there with a happy, free-spirited attitude.  wish me well… 

tonight i am sitting here, with my laptop, doing a little work, beside the glow of the tree lights.  yep, i am in the chair, you see in the photo.  all the other lights are out, except the mini lights on the tree and over the mantle.  it’s purely peaceful.  hmmm, i should light a few candles too!  :)

winter at the peaceful place

well, if this doesn't say brrr... perhaps you might get a few chills after you hear what happened to me on the trail today.

so i am out walking the trail in the freezing cold, all bundled up, andy tagging along behind me... just picture him hopping along, because he has one bad back leg...

so anyhow, i happen to look up and omgoodness.... there about a block in front of us....are 3, perhaps more coyotes.. HOLY CRAP!! and one of them looked right at me. freaky, i tell ya... i about wet my pants... so i quietly tell andy to come and we take off running thru the brush, an unbroken area, down the hill to the lower part of the trail.... while i'm running i am fumbling on my blackberry to call home... panting, in all my warm gear... and too scared to look back. omgoodness what an awful feeling!!
so, they didn't follow us, and i'm not sure they saw andy as he was slightly in the brush... i have never been so happy to get back to the edge of town. as i am calling my husband i am thinking, well atleast he will know to come looking for us, if i let him know what's happening. otherwise he may not have noticed we were m.i.a. til his tummy started rumbling...

well that's my story for the night... will i go to the trail tomorrow? hmmmmm... not feeling so good about it, at this moment. i've been walking there for 10+ years... what the heck? gosh darn it....
