Bryce Posed for Me

So exciting! Bryce agreed to pose for me!

We took some fabulous shots.... This is my kind of portrait...real, true... Bryce...as he is....... Definitely not 'Grandma's'' photo..... The first thing my mom would say.... 'he's not smiling....' 

But I love 'real-life' photos....  I hope this is the beginning for Bryce and I.

it's wonderful when our (mostly) grown children are cooperative. this is a wonderful portrait and i agree with you in that it has a a very 'real' feel to it. what did he think?

I will confess to being one of those grandmas who like to see smiles on the faces. But I've learned that children just don't feel like smiling all the time. I tell the grandchildren I want to take their picture, but just don't smile. Then I remind them again not to smile. They just can't help it, the most beautiful smiles pop out all over their face.

I must admit, I prefer the more casual pose when taking portrait shots. My only willing subject at the moment is my grandson.

One of my most favourite things to do is photograph my girls (all grown) and my grands. The grands love to ham it up now, just at that stage in their lives but they will pose doing what they do in their natural environment as well because they have had a camera in their face since birth. I like to capture them doing tasks, like playing with Lego or playing the guitar or while they are concentrating on something. Candids are my favourtie.

This is a wonderful portrait of your Bryce ... you will treasure it always I'm sure. As a Mom ... you know when his expression is not staged and that's the best time to capture. The light is perfect.

I am looking forward to photographing two of our daughters this spring in their late pregnancies and together as a sister shoot. One is due early June and the other in late June. Going to be a busy summer.
Ideas are buzzing around in my head because of course most of it will be staged but it's a good thing to decide on the poses and where the light will be before the day of.
Then ... NEWBORN captures!! I will be looking to my friends here for some ideas even though I've done a few. I'm always seeing new ways to photograph babies that I've never thought of so I'm adding to my list every time I see something so adorable ... you know what I mean?
I'm sure I'll use some in my Beyond Layers assignments.

Anyway, ... this is a gorgeous piece Kim. Well done!

The apple did not fall far from the tree! He looks just like you. I need to take candid shots of my boys. Now that they are grown, they really do not like to sit for a picture, and I do not take pics like I did when they were little.... Also, remember that Rome was not built in a day:)
